What is it like putting together a new DH team?
I’m really excited about being on a brand new team. I guess with any new team there’s nervousness, but there are also things that you can really build up and do your own way. I think what we’ve built here and the people that we’ve got working together and going to the races to win is going make for some amazing results.
How important is it to be on a factory team with an active role in bike development?
As a rider, the feedback process can be hard if things start getting lost in translation, but it has been amazing for me coming to Canyon. It’s really like a small family where you know all of the right people, in all of the right places, and if you want something done, it doesn’t have to go through too many people to actually get to the top.
What are your goals for 2017?
The past two or three seasons have been really good for me. I’ve been right up there in third place overall. Now I want to win. That’s pretty much the bottom line. It’s going to be tough. There are a lot of fast riders and a lot of things that can happen in between now and the end of the season, but with everything that’s going on now and based on all of my experience so far, I think I’ve got my best chance of winning yet.
Which race are you most looking forward to?
Every World Cup race is always a big deal, but the World Championships are in Cairns, Australia this year. Cairns is my home track, so if I can win on home soil, there’d hopefully be a lot of Australians getting really drunk that night.
